The French Senate has adopted an ‘anti-rave’ law – Techno

shoresh | October 27, 2019

France’s Senate passed an ‘anti-rave’ law on Tuesday evening. The proposed law would require musical gatherings of 500 people or under to register with the local town hall a month before the event takes place, even if they take place on private land. It also tightens regulations on noise levels and increases the penalties for those found guilty of breaking the law, imposing a fine of up to £3750 and giving the police powers to seize equipment including sound systems.

Speaking to Resident Advisor, DJ Jennifer Cardini compared the law to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act passed in the UK in 1994, saying she found the French Senate’s decision “scary and devastating.” Having been passed by the Senate on Tuesday, the proposed legislation now moves to the National Assembly, where if approved, it will become law in France.
